  1. That's awesome! Tremendously looking forward to seeing your projects @richiewayne You should check out this DIY composite curing oven that @John Kimball made a few weeks ago!
  2. Welcome aboard! It's great to have you join us. What kind of hobby parts do you want to build? If there are any subforums you'd like to see to support your efforts, please feel free to ask 🙂
  3. Welcome to Composites Community @richiewayne!
  4. Anyone here going to or at CAMX this week? 🙂
  5. Hey @sfsailboat! Welcome to Composites Community! How much are you wanting it to look like a traditional bed frame? Do you want a brim to hold in the mattress you'll be using? There are a few products that Rock West Composites has off the top of my head that would work well for making a traditional bed frame.
  6. I'm not familiar with surfboard testing, but is the four-point method more indicative of the way someone's feet would naturally be positioned? Also, is the goal of the coupons to test the resistance to a failure between the two sides or front and back? Very cool! Thank you for sharing your project. Looking forward to more 🙂
  7. Hey @Mongo! I don't think so. From what I've seen modeling have gotten so darn good they rarely use full scale models. Though they do eventually test full-scale models to verify things. I'm not sure that I'd use chipboard, but there are most definitely some materials you could take advantage of. I think the problem with composites for mainstream vehicles is cost/consistency right now. You're starting to see it more and more as they work out the kinks though! Were you thinking of doing a full composite chassis or just partial?
  8. Hey @Mongo, Within any paper you can usually copy the citation and right click and 'search for...' depending on your browser or copy and paste it into Google or your favorite search engine like below: Usually, the source will pop right up 👍
  9. These look like a great start @Anthony Fairhurst! With a couple of adjustments they should like great 👍
  10. Cool project idea! This should look great! I've definitely seen some before like this on the bikes of friends 😀 You can buy these premade unless you're really itching for a project or have an odd-shaped exhaust. What kind of exhaust is this for? What shape is it?
  11. How'd this one go @NightmareGoggles? Any pictures of the newest run at this?
  12. Love it! How long did it take to lay all of that up per set? It looks pretty good! Was it done with a wet layup or prepreg?
  13. Welcome @Nell! It's great to have on board and a part of our community 🙂 Perhaps we can get some workshops going at some point and have you be a part of them!
  14. Welcome @Shnorky (Mark)! Great to have you aboard with us 🙂 I know what you mean about a lack of parts. I have a 2021 Crosstrek and (would you believe it?) there aren't a lot of carbon fiber parts available either. I've resorted to wrapping my mirrors with carbon fiber vinyl for now. I have been thinking about making some real CF mirror covers, but I just don't have the time right now. Perhaps over the holiday break this winter I can convince @John Kimball to come out, defrost, and guide me through it. What kind of interior parts do you want to make?
  15. This is awesome! What a cool project! Is the heat in the oven distributed fairly evenly after removing the other heating elements?
  16. Hey @NightmareGoggles! Welcome to Composites Community 🙂 Do you have any pictures that you can provide?
  17. Apparently they make carbon fiber welding helmets! You can grab a Carbon Fiber Pancake Welding Hood from CMR Fabrications:
  18. Welcome aboard Jacky! It's wonderful to have you be a part of our Composites Community 🙂
  19. I know what you mean, there's SO much different stuff out there. I wish someone had videos/classes + a project kit.
  20. Welcome @codyb407! It's great to have you aboard! What composites videos have you found to be the most helpful?
  21. I'm curious @Mongo, is there a particular reason you want to use Ekoa®? I've seen a lot of interest lately so I'm curious why you're looking to use it as opposed to something like fiberglass. Do you use Ekoa® much or at all currently?
  22. Welcome Sean! It's great to have more people aboard! How long have you been working in composites all together?
  23. Since typically the outside is what matters, you could make a 1/2" thick door with a 1/6-1/8" lip that you want. That would retain rigidity. The latch and hinges would just be a little tricky. You could also do a 1/8" panel with ribs on the inside of the door. You might also be able to use CF stringers inside. Just some alternative thought 🙂
  24. Hey @CUBE WITH DOORS, Welcome to Composites Community! It's great to have to onboard. The best way to go about stiffening this is by making a sandwich panel and either using foam or some sort of a honeycomb core material. This is actually how panels for space vehicles are made, so I can assure you that when built properly it will be plenty stiff enough while remaining lightweight and super strong. Heck, you could probably even market them as teenager proof! 'Slammed Doors? No Problem!®' 😄
  25. Super cool and impressive John! I've been wanting to design some lighting for my back room/shop. This definitely gives me some good ideas!
