Threaded hole plugs for attaching things?

How are things typically attached to the ends of the rods? My use case happens to be a tripod/trekking pole, so I want to interface the carbon fiber rod with the bits at either end and a threaded hole seems apropos to me, but if there's another way that's typical for carbon fiber rods I'm interested. 

You could certainly use aluminum parts. I'd suggest anodizing them. Alternatively, you could go with something 3D Printed with a threaded insert. If you were to go the 3D printed route, I'd go with something like PETG or Nylon. You could even use CF PETG or Nylon.
