  1. That is an awesome product, and a good demonstration of the types.  I got a good chuckle out of the clips of the products in use -- especially the one lifting the 50ft pole up while extended fully.  I think this product would be great for an aerial camera pole setup.  Maybe extend it straight up, so that one isn't lifting it horizontally.  Possibly for house sale photos.

  2. You made that look straightforward and accomplishable.

I haven't picked up a kit yet.  Thinking about it for sure.

My car doesn't need any CF bling, so I'm trying to think of other things.  Shelf brackets, drawer fronts, backpack handle, tags. With my 3D printer I could print molds with my TPU or PETG filament.

Hello, and thank you for your time.

Im trying to build a system that will lower a camera which weighs about 18 lbs down a water well to inspect a few pipelines. Im looking for a carbon fiber telescopic pole that will allow me to lower the camera down up to 50ft max. I will be lowering the pole down with an electric winch system and I need to ensure the telescoping sections will not come undone and have "stops" in place to avoid the pole from coming apart if extended too far. Finally the last pole (smallest section) should have an outside diameter of at least an inch and a quarter, but the bigger the better.

    Thank you.

How did this project come along?

I liked the idea of using a really long Carbon fiber pole to raise a small camera up and take "aerial" photos.  So many places ban drones, but a 50ft tall poll with a camera on it would be acceptable.

I 3D print quite a bit! I've been wanting to incorporate carbon fiber into some of my prints for a while now. One thing I've been thinking about doing is adding in some carbon fiber stringers internally to the prints. I think the best way to do this is to make a void in the 3D model for the stringer, print up to the top layer of the void, add the stringer, and resume the print.

I've also been wanting to try out carbon fiber infused filament, but I hear it's rather rough on nozzles. Have you tried any of the CF filaments yet?

Nah, I haven't tried any of the carbon fiber filaments.  I watched a few strength comparisons on Youtube and it boiled down to whether one liked the CF filament look.

I like the ideas of the carbon fiber stringers.  Sounds a lot like pausing the print to add magnets.

Thoughts on whether you'd add some soft of glue or epoxy eventually to adhere the string to the PLA?

Not yet. It's probably going to be a while unless I can graft the frame from the OEM mirrors.

Not sure what the best approach is TBH. But I will definitely be looking into it over the holiday break!

The holidays are in progress.  How is your sideview mirror frame project going?

I too really want to know... With all my experience with epoxies and resins, I would swear that epoxy would find a way to bond to the tissue paper despite the vaseline and turn the finished product into a mess.

I guess a slight surface mess is better than not being able to get the model out of the form at all. Probably a situation where the quality needs greatly depend on the end use.

I'm super new to this, so time for me to go look at how to make forms.

Something I've been thinking about adding is an overview section, maybe even a couple of videos.

Is this something you and @jenn4536would be interested in?

I can't speak for Jenn4536, but an overview would be nice. I'll give the previously posted YouTube channel a watch till you do your thing.  Thanks.

  8. Hello, I'm new here. I've learned a lot about 3D printing, and now I'm thinking about a mixed material project that would utilize some carbon fiber composite bits with 3D printing parts. Thought I'd check this place out and learn a bit.

Have any of you used 3D printing in with your journey in composites?
